Research Partners

The relationship forged between the Center for Independent Living (CILNCF) and the University of Florida’s College of Public Health and Health Professions (UF-PHHP) adheres to “Shared Partnership Guidelines” that were developed specifically for this partnership as a ‘code of ethics.’ These guidelines draw from principles of community-based participatory research (CBPR), and as such stress equitable engagement and decision-making control. Our partners include the following:

UF-PHHP. The principal investigator, Ellen López, MPH, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the UF-PHHP’s Department of Behavioral Science and Community Health in the division of Social and Behavioral Sciences. She can be contacted at: edslopez@phhp.ufl.edu or (352) 273-5361.

Center for Independent Living of North Central Florida (CILNCF) is a consumer driven community based, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that serves 16 counties. Its mission is “to empower people with disabilities to exert individual rights to live as independently as possible, make personal life choices and achieve full community inclusion.” They can be contacted at: Toll Free (800) 265-5724.

Project Steering Committee (SC). All study activities are guided by our SC which is composed of individuals from the disability community, and representatives from local community-based organizations, health departments, health care provider facilities, and academia. SC members were chosen based on their commitment to addressing issues relevant to this study.

Our Granting Agency is The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. For more than two decades they have been a leader in the fight to eradicate breast cancer through their support of research, education, screening, and treatment initiatives.
